Electrotherapeutic Modalities

Electrotherapeutic modalities, such as ultrasound and electrical neurostimulation, can be used to treat pain, muscle weakness, swelling and inflammation. This approach can complement your physiotherapy treatment plan by:

  • Sending electrical impulses to reduce pain to block the body’s pain signals.
  • Stimulating the release of endorphins that help to decrease pain.
  • Reducing atrophy by stimulating muscle tissue.
  • Producing heating effects to improve circulation and the healing process.
  • Decreasing inflammation and increasing collagen production.

At St. Vital Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Centre, our team uses ultrasound, TENS, Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), heat, ice, and traction to help to meet your goals and speed your recovery.
